We have two manikins, one is designed to represent a male wearer, known as RALPH (Research Aim Longer Protection against Heat) and one is designed to represent a female wearer, known as SOPHIE (System Objective Protection against Heat in an Emergency)

Manikin Testing Flame Engulfment Testing
Manikin Testing, also known as flame engulfment testing, is a useful test providing valuable data.
We subject the garments to an 84kW/m² powered fireball and the thermocouple sensors on the manikin, which act as the skin of the wearer, provide the readings.
These readings are translated into a visual diagram along with a burn injury percentage prediction, offering a realistic idea of how the garment would protect the wearer from a risk of 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree burns.
This gives manufacturers and end users greater confidence in the performance of the product.
We have always welcomed clients to witness some of the tests to gain a better understanding of what is required and how to improve if necessary.
