Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic Laboratory Technician to join our Industrial Materials Laboratory in Manchester.  The department is responsible for carrying out testing of geosynthetic materials and waterproof membranes.


The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of mechanical and hydraulic tests on textiles and related samples to ensure our client’s products comply with industry standards. 


Reporting to the Laboratory Manager the main duties are:
•    Mechanical and hydraulic testing of geotextiles, geomembranes and geosynthetic clay liners according to standard test methods and internal SOP’s
•    Completing laboratory record sheets
•    Reporting test results, both internally and externally
•    Basic instrument maintenance and calibration checks
•    Accurate interpretation, calculation, recording and transcription of test results
•    Maintenance of quality system records and procedures
•    Cutting out of test specimens from samples of geosynthetics, either on a press or by hand
•    Dealing with couriers, receiving samples, opening and logging of samples
•    Adhere to all company procedures to ensure the highest degree of quality.
•    Operate in a safe, organised, tidy, and clean manner

Skills/attributes
•    Degree level (or equivalent) or above
•    Science, textile or mathematical qualifications advantageous 
•    Ability to interpret BS EN, ISO, ASTM and AS Standards
•    This is a physical role with a need to handle rolls of geosynthetics in the preparation area.
•    Good written English skills and computer literacy
•    Accuracy to ensure specimens are prepared and labelled correctly
•    Team working and a flexible and willing attitude. A logical, enquiring mind will be particularly useful. 
•    Ability to deal with our clients directly in a professional, efficient and helpful manner
•    Organisational and time management skills 
•    Ability to work to tight timescales and deadlines
 
General Information
•    The work can be repetitive and dirty by nature.  The successful candidate must be prepared to work in such an environment and understand the need for continued accuracy.
•    The successful candidate will need to be prepared to adopt a hands-on approach and ensure that work is progressed quickly whilst maintaining the highest levels of quality for a safety critical industry.
